Advising Entrepreneurs

Chicago attorney Marc J. Lane has published his 30th book, "Advising Entrepreneurs: Dynamic Strategies for Financial Growth (John Wiley & Sons).

Lane wrote the book to fill an apparent void in professional literature of comprehensive resources for advisers to successful entrepreneur-clients who present challenging financial opportunities or problems.

A 1971 graduate of the Northwestern University School of Law, he has chaired committees of the ISBA Business Advice and Financial Planning Section Council and the American Bar Association Section of Taxation.

A business and tax attorney, Lane is a master registered financial planner, a registered financial consultant, an adjunct professor of law the Northwestern University and an adjunct professor of business and the University of Illinois Institute for Entrepreneurial Studies.

"Advising Entrepreneurs" is available at bookstores or by calling (800) 225-5945. Lane may be reached at (312) 372-1040 or (800) 372- 1040.

Nothing But the Truth

Northwestern University Law Prof. Steven Lubet has written an analysis of the role of storytelling in trial advocacy titled "Nothing But the Truth" (New York University Press).

In the book, he demonstrates that the craft of lawyer storytelling is a legitimate technique for determining the truth and for providing the best defense for the client. Its three important purposes are to help establish a theory of the case, to develop the trial theme, and to provide a coherent story frame.

To illustrate his theories, Lubet summarizes six different trials, including the real ones of John Brown and Wyatt Earp and the fictional ones of Atticus Finch and Liberty Valance.
