Previous ISBA grants have enabled the CABA to acquire 44 units of equipment that can provide simultaneous translation of forum speakers into Cantonese, Mandarin and Toisan dialects. Additional equipment is needed to provide translation units for growing populations of Vietnamese, Cambodian and Laotian immigrants. Existing headsets are being upgraded to improve the sound quality. "We have been able to use the equipment repeatedly during the last two years," said CABA board member Chunlin Leonhard in his grant application. "Each time, we receive extremely positive feedback regarding use of the units. In fact, we expect the attendance of our seminars to increase as a direct result of the improvement," he added. Former Chicago-area employees of the Immigration and Naturalization Service, which has been absorbed into the new federal Homeland Security initiative, are expected to speak during the May 17 forum. A 1966 graduate of the DePaul University College of Law, Mr. Hoey was an assistant Cook County public defender and a lawyer in the Federal Defender Program before founding the personal injury litigation firm that concentrates in transportation law and is counsel to seven railroad labor unions. The son of a Chicago police officer, Mr. Hoey's interest in representing injured workers, particularly in Federal Employers Liability Act matters, may be traced to the death of his grandfather while on the job as a railroad worker. A board member and chair of the Arts Committee of the Union League Club of Chicago for several years, Mr. Hoey was instrumental in planning its two-week Beaux-Arts Celebration and invitational artists' exhibit in January (ISBA Bar News, February 3, page 12). He headed the agricultural law program at the University of Illinois for 20 years and taught estate planning and taxation. Mr. Krausz was voted best instructor in the College of Agriculture three times and was named one of the three best educators on the university faculty. He received the Paul A. Funk Award for outstanding achievement in agriculture in 1973. He also served by appointment on the United Nations staff that wrote a water code for Cyprus. He retired from teaching in 1977 to practice law. Abe Linderman Retired Illinois administrative law judge Abe M.
