The Chicago office of Grant Thornton has appointed accountant Susan Henry as director of economic advisory services. She was senior manager of litigation and fraud investigation services at BDO Seidman.

Warrenville attorney Stephen M. Knightlinger has joined Attorneys' Title Guaranty Fund as a sales and support representative in recruiting new members and helping them develop and market real estate law practices. He is a former general counsel for a frozen food distributor.

BryceDowney in Chicago and Peoria has promoted Jeanne M. Hoffmann and Terrence J. Madden to partners. Madden heads the Coverage and Medical Malpractice Department, and Hoffmann and Dawn M. Cassie head the Intellectual Property Department.

BryceDowney has added Yvonne M. Kato and Caroline Watson as associates in the Litigation Department.

Mark J. Shkolnik, formerly of Piper Rudnick, has joined Freeborn & Peters as an associate in intellectual property and environmental law. David Ter Molen, from Sidley, Austin, Brown & Wood and Schiff Hardin, is now an associate in intellectual property and litigation.

Other new litigation associates at Freeborn & Peters include Rachel Atterberry, Gia Colunga, Gina DiBella, Ami Gandhi and Matthew Kramer.

Heyl, Royster, Voelker & Allen has added nine associates in four of its downstate offices. They are: Maureen R. DeArmond, Carol J. Perkins and John M. Redlingershafer in Peoria, Timothy D. Denny in Springfield, Roxanne M. Sosnowski in Rockford, Monica H. Ketarpal Sholar and Joseph K. Guyette in Urbana, and Patrick D. Cloud and Patrick E. Foppe in Edwardsville.

Former assistant Cook County state's attorneys Mari-Rose McManus and Bernadette Rossmoore have joined Lake, Toback & D'Arco, Chicago, as associates in complex matrimonial litigation.

The Law Offices of Jeffrey M. Leving, Chicago, has added David Franks of Marengo to its family law practice in the rights of fathers. He is secretary of the ISBA Traffic Laws and Courts Section Council and a member of the General Practice, Solo and Small Firm Section Council.

Mark J. McGuire, a partner in the Chicago office of McGuireWoods, has been appointed co-leader of its energy and utilities practice. He heads the firm's team that handles legal services for Peoples Energy and it subsidiaries.

Patrick F. Moran has become associated with the Chicago firm of Peters & Lyons in labor and employment law matters. He was with the Law Offices of Joseph V. Roddy.

Pircher, Nichols & Meeks, Chicago, has added Christine Thomson Dunn as an associate in the real estate department. Formerly with Mayer, Brown, Rowe & Maw, she also is a certified public accountant.

New associates at Schopf & Weiss, Chicago, are Marcus D. Fruchter and Kristen K. Leibensperger, both in business litigation.

New associates at Stellato & Schwartz, Chicago, are Dana A. Rice, Rachel H. Krayer and Jordan E. Frank.

Irene Cualoping has joined Lori S. C. Yokoyama & Associates, Chicago, as of counsel in real estate, corporate, administrative, employment and entertainment law. She continues as managing partner of ENERI Communications. Recently added associates in the Yokoyama firm are Laurie A. Jugueta and Ken Anno.

Epilogue

Eugene Dupee was grandson of Schiff Hardin founder

Eugene H. Dupee Jr. of Winnetka, who practiced tax law in Chicago for 30 years at Schiff Hardin, died Nov. 4 at age 90 of pneumonia in Glenbrook Hospital, Glenview. The law firm was founded in 1864 by his grandfather, Charles Dupee, as Hitchcock & Dupee.

A 1938 graduate of the Northwestern University School of Law, Eugene Dupee took part in invasions of Japanese-held islands as a Navy officer in the Pacific during World War II. He joined his grandfather's firm in 1952 and retired in 1982.

An avid collector of more than 2,000 jazz music albums, tapes, cassettes and discs, Mr. Dupee was a founder of a jazz study group at the North Shore Senior Center in Northfield.

Robert Armstrong

Inverness attorney Robert A. Armstrong Jr. died Nov. 30 at age 58 of heart failure in Northwest Community Hospital, Arlington Heights. A 1971 graduate of the Chicago-Kent College of Law, he started his firm in 1973.

A Special Olympics soccer coach for more than 16 years, Mr. Armstrong received the Paula Calderone Volunteer of the Year Award in 2000.

John Brezina

LaGrange Park patent attorney John Charles Brezina died in November at age 74. A 1963 graduate of The John Marshall Law School, he practiced in Chicago for many years with Brezina & Ehrlich.

Andrew Cohen

Chicago public interest attorney Andrew J. Cohen died Nov. 26 at age 44 of a cerebral hemorrhage in Valhalla, N.Y. A 1985 graduate of the New York University Law School, he had practiced for 19 years with the Legal Assistance Foundation of Metropolitan Chicago.

Mr. Cohen was to receive the foundation's Equal Justice Award this month for his work in its West Side intake office and establishment of a public benefits hotline.

Survivors include his wife, Diane M. Pezanoski, a deputy Chicago corporation counsel in regulatory and aviation litigation.

Dale Ferguson

Retired Harrisburg attorney Dale Ferguson died Nov. 17 at age 93 in Evansville, Ind. A 1997 graduate of the University of Illinois College of Law, he was an Army captain during World War II combat in Europe.

Mr. Ferguson practiced in East Moline and Rock Island for 22 years before returning to his hometown of Harrisburg to practice with Lynndon Hancock. He retired in 1983.

Survivors include a son, retired Harrisburg attorney Charles M. Ferguson.

Jack Fields

Jack C. Fields of Bloomington, registrar, associate professor of business administration and assistant dean of Illinois Wesleyan University, died Oct. 21 at age 55 in BroMenn Regional Medical Center, Normal.

A 1983 graduate of the Northern Illinois University College of Law and a certified public accountant, Mr. Fields had worked in the finance section of General Electric from 1972 to 1980. He joined the Wesleyan faculty in 1983 and was appointed registrar in 1994.

Roy Frazier

Retired Springfield attorney Roy E. Frazier Jr. died Oct. 13 at age 88 in Hot Springs Village, Ark. A 1941 graduate of the University of Michigan Law School, he received five Bronze Stars and a Victory Medal as a Navy communications officer in the Asiatic and Pacific campaigns during World War II.

A former assistant Illinois attorney general for land acquisition with the Department of Transportation, Mr. Frazier later had a private practice and taught real estate law and estate planning at Lincoln Land Community College.

He was Illinois state commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars in 1951-52, past commander of the Centralia post and former national inspector general.

Paul Gallagher

Semi-retired Evanston patent attorney Paul H. Gallagher died Nov. 26 in Evanston Hospital after hip surgery. A 1939 graduate of the DePaul University College of Law, he served in the Army in Europe during World War II.

Mr. Gallagher practiced with several firms before opening his own office in 1962. He relocated to Evanston 20 years ago and continued to practice until two weeks before he died.

William Hundman

Bloomington attorney William T. Hundman died Oct. 29 at age 54 after the van his wife was driving veered off I-55 near Gardner and rolled over, ejecting both of them.

A 1975 honors graduate of the St. Louis University Law School, Mr. Hundman was a member of the Robert C. Underwood Inn of Court. He was inducted into the Central Catholic High School Hall of Fame in 1992.

Ruth Leffler

Mt. Prospect attorney Ruth L. Leffler died Oct. 27 at age 87. A 1948 graduate of the Northwestern University School of Law, she served in the Navy during World War II.

F. Raymond Marks

Former Chicago attorney F. Raymond Marks, the first staff counsel for the American Civil Liberties Union of Illinois, died Nov. 8 at age 76 in Oakland, Calif., of colon cancer.

A civil rights attorney in California, Mr. Marks represented the state's Childhood and Government Project in the successful appeal of a federal case that involved failure of the San Francisco school system to provide adequate instruction to Chinese students who did not speak English.

Bruce Mueller

Former Chicago workers' compensation attorney Bruce C. Mueller died Nov. 25 at age 85. A 1947 graduate of the DePaul University College of Law, he had served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He remained in the Air Force and retired as a lieutenant colonel.

Willard Olson

Retired attorney Willard S. Olson of Minooka, formerly of Dwight, died Oct. 23 at age 90 in Silver Cross Hospital, Joliet. He served in the Navy in the Pacific during World War II.

Henry Peterson

Chicago attorney Henry A. Peterson died Nov. 16 at age 94. A 1942 graduate of The John Marshall Law School, he was a partner in Even & Peterson for several years.

Laurence Robbins

Chicago attorney Laurence S. Robbins, a partner in Robbins & Robbins, died in November at age 73. He was a 1956 graduate of The John Marshall Law School.

Survivors include his wife, Ronnie Orzoff Robbins, and a son, Elliott H. Robbins, both partners in the law firm.

Edward Roche

Edward Joseph Roche of Chillicothe, an attorney and certified public accountant, died Nov. 6 at age 63 in Methodist Medical Center. A member of the Illinois bar since 1972, he was vice president and director of international taxes for the McDonald's Corp. for more than 16 years.

Charles Sheehan

Charles T. Sheehan, a retired attorney and lobbyist for the cast metals industry who lived in Lombard and Glen Ellyn, died Nov. 29 at age 80, of kidney failure in a Milwaukee hospice.

A graduate of the Loyola University School of Law, Mr. Sheehan had served as an Army sergeant during World War II and received a Bronze Star.

Between 1951 and 1989, when he retired, he was executive director of the National Foundry Association in Chicago and the Cast Metals Federation in DesPlaines. He moved to Milwaukee in 2002.

Carole Boltz Tayar

Former Lincolnshire attorney Carole Lippert Boltz Tayar died Sept. 8 at age 67 in La Quinta, Calif. A 1986 graduate of the Chicago-Kent College of Law, she had a master's degree in education.

Mrs. Tayar practiced law until the death of her first husband, then moved to California.
