Czech exchange program ongoing after 15 yearsA call has been issued for financial support of the Czech Student Exchange Program that has existed for more than 15 years between The John Marshall Law School and the law faculty of Masaryk University at Brno in the Czech Republic. “This is a truly remarkable program that continues to have an important impact on legal education and practice in this formerly communist country that has made the transition to a western style of democracy,” said Prof. Michael P. Seng. Calling the exchange program “the crown jewel in our relationship with the Czech Republic,” Seng pointed out that it becomes more costly each year to maintain a Czech law student for a semester of study in Chicago. He added that many of the past exchange students are doing excellent work in private practice, as university instructors and as counsel in the Ministry of Justice. Seng led John Marshall’s 15th annual Czech study tour in October. Participants selected third-year Masaryk law student Lenka Kolarokova to come to Chicago next fall to study judicial administration. John Marshall also continues to take U.S. lawyers and judges to the Czech Republic as lecturers. This month, some will conduct a week-long program on American law and dispute resolution, professional responsibility and entrepreneurial skills. Tax-deductible contributions for the Czech Student Exchange Program may be mailed to Prof. Michael P. Seng at The John Marshall Law School, 315 S. Plymouth Court, Chicago 60604. |
