Edward I. Grossman, executive director of the Chicago Legal Clinic, received a Distinguished Public Service Award from the Public Interest Law Initiative during its annual luncheon Dec. 6 in Chicago.

Also honored as distinguished PILI alumni were Joseph Margulies of the Northwestern University School of Law Bluhm Legal Clinic and LaShonda A. Hunt of Just the Beginning Foundation.

The Office of State Appellate Defender honored two of its Springfield members during a 35th annual reunion dinner Dec. 6 in the Mid-America Club, Chicago.

Karen L. Munoz of the 4th District office received the James B. Haddad Award, and Allen Andrews of the Supreme Court unit received the Richard E. Cunningham Award.

Judge Mark A. Schuering of the 8th Circuit, president of the Illinois Judges Association, received a Sister Theresa Marie Braun Award on Nov. 16 from Quincy Catholic Charities.

Honored for his values, care and compassion for others, Schuering is a Quincy University and public schools mentor, an intervenor for the Lawyers’ Assistance Program and a member of the ISBA Committee on Corrections and Sentencing.

 Jerold S. Solovy, chair emeritus of Jenner & Block, has been named 2007 Person of the Year by Chicago Lawyer magazine. A profile appears in the December issue, and an editorial tribute was published Oct. 6 by the Chicago Tribune.

A 2001 Laureate of the ISBA Academy of Illinois Lawyers, Solovy has been with the law firm since he graduated from Harvard Law School in 1955. He chaired Special Commissions on the Administration of Justice that were formed in 1984 and 1992.

The University of Illinois College of Law has honored several alumni at recent events.

On Nov. 28, Distinguished Alumnus Awards were presented to Robert Benzinger, James Matanky and Jeanette Sublett during a luncheon in Chicago. Also honored was Prof. Jay Kesan, the new Mildred Van Voorhis Jones Faculty Scholar.

During Homecoming weekend in October, Distinguished Alumnus Awards were presented to Eugene Brott, Charles J. Devens, Mary P. Gorman, James B. Jurgens and Stephen P. Stanczak.

U.S. Attorney Rodger A. Heaton of the Central District was inducted into the Samuel K. Gove Illinois Legislative Internship Hall of Fame at a ceremony in the Executive Mansion in Springfield.

Also inducted was Thomas J. Wagner, retired senior vice president and general counsel of the CIGNA Corp. and former administrative assistant to state treasurer Adlai Stevenson III.

The St. Clair County Bar Association presented its Chief Judge Richard A. Hudlin IV Memorial Award to Robert J. Hillebrand on Nov. 15 during its annual senior counselor and new member night in Fairview Heights.
