Parents involved in juvenile court hearings may hear certain legal terms that they do not understand. It is their right to ask what these terms mean and to have the judge or an attorney explain them.

What happens when a child becomes a ward of the court
If a judge determines that child abuse or neglect has occurred, and has made the child a “ward of the court,” regular hearings before a judge will be held to determine how things are going.

Parents in juvenile cases have many rights in court
A parent who is involved in a case where possible abuse or neglect of a child or children occurred, have many rights in a court of law.
