South Suburban Bar Association to Be Honored
By Illinois State Bar Association
The South Suburban Bar Association's pro bono legal referral service, chaired by John C. Voorn, will receive the John C. McAndrews Pro Bono Award from the Illinois State Bar Association (ISBA) for providing free legal assistance to 1,526 clients during the past year.
Melanie Frazek, president of the South Suburban Bar Association, will accept the award at the ISBA's Annual Meeting to be held June 17-19, at The Abbey in Lake Geneva, Wis.
Members of the South Suburban Bar also conducted a six-week People's Law School, which received financial support from the ISBA.
The award, which is presented each year to a member of the legal profession who has shown extraordinary commitment to providing free legal services to the poor, is named for the late John C. McAndrews, a lawyer from Rock Island who, by personal example and his work in the bar association, was instrumental in expanding pro bono legal services for the indigent in Illinois.
The 30,000-member ISBA, with offices in Springfield and Chicago, provides professional services to Illinois lawyers, and education and services to the public.
