FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
June 16, 2004
Attorney Richard F. Kohn, of Deerfield, will receive the John C. McAndrews Pro Bono Award from the Illinois State Bar Association (ISBA) for his volunteer work as a full-time volunteer with the Legal Assistance Foundation of Metropolitan Chicago.
The award will be presented at the organization's Annual Meeting to be held June 17-19, at The Abbey in Lake Geneva, Wis.
Kohn was nominated by Richard Hess, of the Legal Assistance Foundation of Metropolitan Chicago, for two years of service in the Home Ownership Preservation Project, an initiative of Consumer Legal Assistance to the Elderly, to save clients' homes from foreclosure.
The award, which is presented each year to a member of the legal profession who has shown extraordinary commitment to providing free legal services to the poor, is named for the late John C. McAndrews, a lawyer from Rock Island who, by personal example and his work in the bar association, was instrumental in expanding pro bono legal services for the indigent in Illinois.
The 30,000-member ISBA, with offices in Springfield and Chicago, provides professional services to Illinois lawyers, and education and services to the public.
