Joseph G. Bisceglia
Illinois State Bar Association

Long active in the ISBA, Bisceglia was elected in 2002 to its Board of Governors, the ISBA's governing body. He served as a member of its Assembly for 12 years and was chair of numerous committees. In 1997, he received the ISBA Board of Governors award for exceptional contributions to the profession.

Bisceglia is a past president of the Justinian Society of Lawyers and a board member of the Federal Bar Association, Chicago chapter. He has been an adjunct professor of Trial Advocacy at The John Marshall Law School since 1985.

He concentrates his law practice in civil and criminal litigation on behalf of plaintiffs and defendants, in both state and federal trial and appellate courts.

Bisceglia, who resides in Chicago's West Loop, received his B.A., with honors, from the University of Illinois and his J.D. from DePaul University College of Law, summa cum laude.

 

Jack Carey
Illinois State Bar Association

As an ISBA member Carey served on the Board of Governors from 2000 to 2003, and as treasurer from 2002 to 2003. He became Chair of the Unauthorized Practice of Law Task Force in 2004, and is a member of the Judicial Evaluations Committee, the General Practice, Solo & Small Firm Section Council, and the Law Office Management and Economics Council Council.

Carey specializes in general trial practice emphasizing personal injury and labor law. He has been a lecturer for the St. Clair County Bar Association's People's Law School, Southwestern Illinois College, Association of Trial Lawyers of America, Trial Advocacy College, and St. Louis University.

In 2004 Carey received the Board of Governors Award. He served as president of the East St. Louis Bar Association from 1985 to 1986, and of the St. Clair County Bar Association from 1986 to 1987. He is a member of the Madison County Bar Association, the Bar Association of the Central and Southern Federal Districts of Illinois, the American Bar Association, the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association, the Missouri Association of Trial Attorneys, and the Association of Trial Lawyers of America. Carey is Director and charter Fellow of the Illinois Bar Foundation, and served as a member of the Assembly from 1981 to 1988, 1990 to 2000, and from 2004 to present.

Carey is Vice President of the Land of Lincoln Legal Assistance Foundation, Inc. He served as a member of the Signal Hill School District 181 Board of Education from 1983 to 1997, and as president from 1986 to 1997. Prior to that, he served on the Board of Directors of the Signal Hill Fire Protection District from 1975 to 1986.

Carey graduated from Westminster College in 1964, receiving his master's degree from Southern Illinois University Carbondale in 1967, and his J.D. from St. Louis University in 1974. Jack, a widower, has three children: Brian, a 1997 graduate of Northwestern University who received an MBA from Indiana University's Kelley School of Business in 2004; Christopher, a 2001 graduate of Northwestern University, and Lauren, who graduated from the University of Colorado in 2004.

 

John G. O'Brien

Mr. O'Brien's practice concentrates in real estate and estate planning. He is the founder and chairman of the Board of Directors of the Illinois Real Estate Lawyers Association (IRELA). IRELA is the leading advocate for protecting the role of the attorney in the residential real estate process.

O'Brien is a member of the Illinois State Bar Association Board of Governors and has served as vice chair of the ISBA Task Force on the Unauthorized Practice of Law. He was a member of the Special Committee on the Future of the Courts and is a member of the Board of Directors of the Illinois Bar Foundation and a member of the Special Committee on Strategic Planning of the ISBA. He has been elected to the Scope and Correlation Committee for each of the last four years and currently serves as the treasurer of the ISBA. Also, he was recently appointed to the Standing Committee on Lawyer's Title Guaranty Funds of the American Bar Association.

O'Brien has lectured on real estate topics for the Illinois State Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the Illinois Institute for Continuing Education, and Attorneys' Ti-tle Guaranty Fund (where he serves as a member of the board of directors) as well as numerous bar associations throughout the state. Mr. O'Brien was recently appointed by the Illinois Supreme Court to serve on the Minimum Continuing Legal Education Board.

O'Brien is the recipient of the Northwest Sub-urban Bar Association's President's Award for Distinguished Public Service. He earned a B.A. from the University of Notre Dame in 1968, and a J.D. from Loyola University in 1972.

Irene F. Bahr

She was elected to its governing body, the Board of Governors, in 1997 and as a delegate to its Assembly since 1990. She has served on numerous committees, including the Committee on the Unauthorized Practice of Law, and the Special Committee on Communications for the Next Century, and the first Chair of the Women and the Law Committee.

Bar concentrates her legal practice in state, local and federal regulatory and disciplinary matters relating to the licensing and sale of alcoholic beverages and related litigation.

She is a past president of the DuPage Association of Women Lawyers and the DuPage County Child Friendly Courts Foundation, and a former member of the Governor's Committee on the Status of Women in Illinois.

Bahr received her B.A., with honors, from the University of Illinois, and her J.D., cum laude, from DePaul University College of Law. She and her husband, Judge Robert Anderson, reside in Wheaton.
