Lincoln Park Resident Elected Secretary of
Illinois State Bar Association
Chicago attorney Stephen M. Komie, a life-long resident of Lincoln Park, was elected secretary of the 30,000-member Illinois State Bar Association (ISBA). He will serve a one-year term through June 2005.
Komie grew up in Lincoln Park, attending Francis Parker School, and received his law degree from DePaul University College of Law in 1976. He attended the National College of Criminal Defense Lawyers and Public Defenders in 1978, and he is a founding member of the National College of Drunken Driving Defense.
Komie, the principal of Komie & Associates and a nationally recognized criminal defense lawyer, has tried some of Illinois' more high-profile criminal cases such as, the Sandra Fabiano daycare case, Archdiocesan priest abuse cases, and the Carroccia murder case. He also represents well known Lincoln-Parkers in high-profile matrimonial cases.
A member of the ISBA since 1973, he has been an elected member of the board of governors since 1992. He was elected by the ISBA's 25-member board which functions as the governing body of the state's largest bar association.
Komie is a regular legal lecturer in Illinois, at national conventions, and internationally. He has lectured for the International Bar Association on the American Constitution and trial technique in Auckland, Brussels, Dublin, Edinburgh, London, and Sydney.

Chicago attorney Stephen M. Komie (a former council member of the American Bar Association's Criminal Justice Section) was elected secretary of the 30,000-member Illinois State Bar Association (ISBA). He will serve a one-year term through June 2005.
