WHEATON RESIDENT ELECTED SECOND VICE PRESIDENT
OF ILLINOIS STATE BAR ASSOCIATION


 

Attorney Irene F. Bahr, of Wheaton, was installed as second vice president of the Illinois State Bar Association (ISBA) at the organization's Annual Meeting held recently at The Abbey Resort, in Fontana, Wis.

Bahr was elected third vice president in 2003 and will move up the organizational ladder to become president in 2006.

The 30,000-member organization, with offices in Springfield and Chicago, provides professional services to Illinois lawyers, and education and services to the public.

Bahr is a sole practitioner in Wheaton, concentrating in state, local and federal regulatory and disciplinary matters relating to the licensing and sale of alcoholic beverages and related litigation.

Active in the ISBA since 1977, Bahr was elected secretary of the organization in 2001. She has served on the 25-member Board of Governors since 1997 and as a delegate to the ISBA Assembly since 1990. Among committees on which she serves or has served are the Committee on the

Unauthorized Practice of Law, Women & the Law, Committee on Scope & Correlation, Special Committee on Communications for the Next Century, Committee on Allocation of Judicial Resources and Committee on Personnel. She is also a member of the Administrative Law Section Council and is a Fellow of the Illinois Bar Foundation.

Bahr is a past president of the DuPage Association of Women Lawyers, and the DuPage County Child Friendly Courts Foundation which provides free child care to persons who have business at the DuPage court house. She is a member of the Governor's Committee on the Status of Women in Illinois.

Bahr received a B.A. degree with honors from the University of Illinois in 1971, and a J.D. degree, cum laude, from DePaul University in 1977.
