It was determined that there was no
quorum present, so a motion to approve the minutes was tabled.
III. Legislation
No Report.
IV. Newsletter
The third newsletter is out. The fourth newsletter is close to
publication.
V. CLE
Blake Harrop is to talk to Jim
Mutchnik to determine the status of the planned May presentation.
The Criminal and Corrections
sections are combining to present a program on the Federal Sentencing Guidelines
and the post-Blakely
developments. Blake will contact those
sections to suggest adding our section as a sponsor and possible source of a
speaker.
VI. Internet
It was noted the most recent
minutes have not been posted to the sections' web site. Selina Thomas will have that done.
VII. New
Business
Membership on the council was
discussed at some length. All present
were encouraged to recommend new members for the council. Blake will talk to Meg Simpson about her
evaluations of the current council members.
Robert Downs - Chair Elect of the ISBA - visited to state that he was
intending to remove several members from the council for
non-participation. Efforts should be
renewed to extend the group's focus to unfair competition issues as well as
antitrust issues.
It was suggested that council
meetings should be organized with a particular focus. Jonathan Lewis suggested tying them to
specific programs. Blake suggested that we use both the programs and particular
planning needs as the focus of the meetings.
For example, the late summer meeting could focus primarily on planning
the upcoming events and goals for the year.
More effort will be made to
encourage council members who cannot physically come to the meetings to
participate by phone.
VIII. Next
Meeting - To be determined.
