MEETING MINUTES OF AUGUST 31, 2005

I.            Call to Order

            Mr. Blake Harrop, Chair, called the meeting to order.

II.         Introduction of Members     

III.      Approval of June 22, 2004 minutes

            Millie Calhoun made a motion to approve the June 22, 2005 minutes and Marvin          

Price seconded the motion.  A vote was taken and the motion passed.

IV.       Old Business

 

            A.  Legislation

                        No Report.

 

            B.  Newsletter

Meg Simpson reported that she and Derrick Kedziora had met and discussed the Newsletter.  The Newsletter sign up was passed around.  Article deadlines are as follows:  Winter issue due December 1st; Spring issue due February 1st; and Summer issue due May 1st.  Case summaries would continue and members would be assigned summaries in alphabetical order.  Meg would keep track of the list. 

 

Meg suggested that Stan Wojekowski, a new member nominated by Blake Harrop, be assigned to work on the consumer protection issue.  (Stan is employed in the Consumer Protection Bureau of the Attorney General's Office) 

 

            C.  CLE

Jim Mutchnik was in Australia at the time of the meeting.  It was reported that Jim had arranged for Debbie Majores to speak in November and was trying to find a Wednesday date that would work.  Jim Mutchnik was also fairly confident that he would be able to arrange for Michael Salinger, the newly appointed head of the Bureau of Economics at the FTC, to speak in January.

 

Millie Calhoun reported that the CLE committee was still interested in presenting a CLE program on corporate counseling.  The program would likely be held at the ISBA in late Spring - April/May. The program would be scheduled for late afternoon with a reception to follow.

D.  Internet

            Brian McLaughlin was attending DOJ training in South Carolina at the time of the meeting.  Blake reported that Brian had contacted the ISBA web person and would work on getting the Minutes and Newsletters posted to the website.

V.          New Business

 

            A.  Plaque presented to out-going Chair

Blake presented a plaque of appreciation to Meg Simpson for her work as the 2004-2005 Chair of the Antitrust & Unfair Competition Law Section Council.

 

B.  Next Meeting

The next meeting was set for October 19, 2005.
