ISBA Committees
ISBA Committees are authorized by the ISBA Board of Governors or the Assembly, and members of most committees are appointed by the ISBA President.
Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission Committee
This committee's role is to improve the relationship among the ISBA, members of the Illinois bar and the Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission.
Bar Publications Board
The committee serves as an editorial board for bar publications other than the Illinois Bar Journal, the ISBA Bar News, and ISBA newsletters.
Bar Services and Activities
Among other duties, this committee promotes ISBA services, activities and programs and oversees membership development.
CLE
This committee is responsible for planning and coordinating ISBA's Law Ed SeriesSERIES and other continuing legal education programs.
Correctional Facilities and Services
This committee is responsible for various activities relating to the improvement of correctional facilities in Illinois.
Delivery of Legal Services
This committee studies, recommends, promotes and conducts ISBA activities related to prepaid legal service, legal assistance to the indigent, methods of simplifying or lessening the cost of delivering legal services, and related issues.
Government Lawyers
This committee reviews laws relating to government practice, present seminars and conferences for government lawyers, and promotes government-lawyer interests in ISBA and the profession.
Illinois Bar Journal Editorial Board
This committee oversees the operation of the Illinois Bar Journal, the Illinois Courts Bulletin, ISBA newsletters, and the ISBA advertising program.
Insurance Programs and Services
This committee supervises all insurance programs and services sponsored and endorsed by the Association offered to ISBA members.
Law Related Education for the Public
This committee studies, formulates and recommends programs to foster and implement law related education in Illinois, primarily at the secondary-school level.
Legal Education, Admission and Competence
The LRE committee studies all phases of preparatory and legal education requirements for admission to the bar and standards for bar examinations and reviews and makes recommendations about continuing legal education, competence, and lawyer skills.
Legal Technology
Among other responsibilities, the committee advises ISBA members on the use of technology in their practices and serves as a clearinghouse for technical information.
Legislation
This committee is responsible for executing the legislative program of the ISBA.
Mental Health Law
This committee reviews administrative procedures, laws and rules affecting the mentally disabled and makes recommendations to the ISBA Board of Governors.
Minority and Women Participation
This committee's task is to enable the organized bar, particularly the ISBA, to bring minority and women lawyers into the work of the organized bar at all levels. Click here to read the Minority and Women Participation committee newsletter.
Professional Conduct
Among other responsibilities, the Professional Conduct Committee reviews the Rules of Professional Conduct to assure that its provisions adequately address matters of professional conduct and prepares written advisory opinions on professional conduct in response to member inquiries.
Public Relations
This committee's role is to promote a better understand of the role of the ISBA and lawyers in the community.
Sexual Orientation & Gender Identity
This committee's task is to educate attorneys, judges, the Association, and members of the general public about the law as it relates to lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender ("LGBT") persons; to promote the fair and equal treatment of LGBT individuals; and to further the professional development of LGBT attorneys and law students, as well as practitioners who serve LGBT clients, by creating programming, mentoring opportunities, and other resources that support their professional needs and interests.
Supreme Court Rules
This committee assists the ISBA Board of Governors and the Assembly with the review of proposed amendments to the Rules of the Illinois Supreme Court (excepting the Rules of Professional Conduct, which are the responsibility of the Committee on Professional Conduct, and the rules governing attorney discipline, which are the responsibility of the Committee on ARDC).
Voluntary Fee Arbitration
This committee supervises the operation of the ISBA voluntary fee arbitration program.
Women and the Law
This committee's purpose is to study and focus on areas of the law uniquely affecting women.
