Irene Bahr speaks at SIU

ISBA President Irene F. Bahr will speak to first-year law students at the Southern Illinois University School of Law on Friday, Oct. 6.

The induction ceremony will include student response to an oath of professionalism administered by Illinois Supreme Court Justice Lloyd Karmeier. Bahr will then help welcome students as they receive scales-of-justice pins.

The oath was drafted previously by students in a year-long program on ethics and professionalism. It earned an ABA Gambrell Award for Professionalism for the law school.

Fair housing reviewed

The John Marshall Law School Fair Housing Legal Support Center and the Center for Real Estate Law will be hosts for a National Fair Housing Conference on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 8-9.

Derrick Bell lectures

Law Prof. Derrick Bell, author of several books on race and civil rights, will deliver The John Marshall Law School's annual Belle R. and Joseph H. Braun Memorial Lecture at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 13.

The visiting law professor at New York University and the University of Pittsburgh will speak on “Accepting Extinction: Will Christian Doctrine Prove our Enemy Rather than our Salvation?” Call Jaime Wesley at (312) 987-2351 for more information.

Faculty member honored

Prof. John F. Decker of the DePaul Uni---versity College of Law received an Excellence in Teaching Award during the recent commencement ceremony. A faculty member since 1971, he has been director of the field placement program since 1978.
