LAP to present honors at 26th dinner Oct. 6

The Lawyers' Assistance Program (LAP) will honor Cook County Judge Michael J. Murphy and Mary T. Robinson, administrator of the Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission during its 26th annual dinner in October.

Murphy, who is presiding judge of the County Division and is unopposed for election to the Appellate Court in November, will accept the Hon. John Powers Crowley Award.

Robinson will receive the Carl H. Role-wick Award, which is named in memory of a former ARDC administrator.

The annual reception and dinner are scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 6, in the Empire Room of the Palmer House Hilton, Chicago. Call (312) 726-6607 for reservations at $100 per person.

Keynote speaker is Chicago attorney Lester Munson, a writer for Sports Illustrated. He will discuss “Drugs, Alcohol and Gambling in Sports: Bonds, Backman and Rose.”

Since it was founded in 1980 by the Illi-nois State and Chicago Bar Associations, LAP has helped legal professionals deal with substance dependencies through educational outreach, peer counseling and confidential interventions.

A 14-minute video presentation with interviews and vignettes is in production and is scheduled for debut during the annual dinner, said executive director Janet Piper Voss.
