Cook County Judge Hyman Riebman of the 3rd Municipal District, a past president of the Northwest Suburban Bar Association, received an Excellence Award on Dec. 7 during a presentation in Rolling Meadows.

It took place at a holiday party conducted by the Northwest and North Suburban Bar Associations with judges of the 2nd and 3rd Municipal Districts.

Chicago attorney James J. Morici Jr., a member of the ISBA Board of Governors and past president of the Justinian Society, was honored recently as Person of the Year by the Italian American Chamber of Commerce.

Raj Shah of DLA Piper Rudnick Gray Cary, Chicago, has received a Pride of India Gold Award from the Non-Resident Indian Institute in recognition of his devotion to the Indian community. Shah was honored in June as an ISBA Young Lawyer of the Year.

Chicago attorney Paul M. Lisnek received a Quadrangle Award from the University of Illinois College of Liberal Arts and Sciences recently for significant life achievements and ongoing support of the school.

Three Chicago attorneys received Distinguished Alumni Awards last month from the University of Illinois College of Law during a ceremony in Oak Brook.

They are Marilyn K. Gerdes, corporate vice president and senior tax counsel for the Sara Lee Corp.; James H. M. Sprayregen of Kirkland & Ellis, and Edward J. Zulkey of Baker & McKenzie.

The college also honored Prof. David A. Hyman as a Galowich-Huizenga Faculty Scholar in civil procedure and health care regulation.

Aurora Abella-Austriaco of Peck, Bloom, Austriaco & Mitchell, Chicago, received an Award for Excellence in Law last month from the Philippine American Chamber of Commerce during a dinner in Rosemont.

A member of the ISBA Real Estate Law Section Council, she is president of the Illinois Real Estate Lawyers Association, a commissioner of the Cook County Human Rights Commission and vice president of the Center for Conflict Resolution.

The contributions of Philip H. Ward Jr. as editor of “Ward on Title Examinations” for 47 years have been acknowledged by the Illinois Institute for Continuing Legal Education.

Of counsel to Ward, Murray, Pace & Johnson, Sterling, he has been primary author of the attorneys' “bible” on examining abstracts on title insurance since 1958. He succeeded his father, Philip H. Ward, who produced the original edition in 1946.
