Court names board to administer MCLE Rock Island attorney Jack L. Brooks has been appointed chair of the nine-member board that will administer the Illinois Supreme Court's minimum continuing legal education (MCLE) process. The court announced the appointments Nov. 23 in M.R. 20546, which became effective Dec. 1, pursuant to Rule 792. The roster of members, and the years in which their terms will expire each Dec. 31, are: Brooks (2008), 19th Circuit Judge Michael J. Chmiel of Woodstock (2007), Diane L. Embil of Flossmoor (2006), Patrick M. Kinnally of Aurora (2006), John G. O'Brien of Arlington Heights (2007), James A. Rapp of Quincy (2007), George R. Ripplinger of Belleville (2006), Philip J. Rock of Chicago (2008), and Faye E. Terrell-Perkins of Olympia Fields (2008). O'Brien is a member of the ISBA Board of Governors and the Illinois Bar Foundation board. Chmiel is a member of the ISBA Assembly and associate newsletter editor for the Commercial, Banking and Bankruptcy Law Section. Kinnally serves on three ISBA section councils – Civil Practice and Procedure, General Practice, Solo and Small Firm, and International and Immigration Law. Ripplinger is a member of the Committees on Legal Education, Admission and Competence, and Judicial Evaluations Outside Cook County. In announcing the appointments, Chief Justice Robert R. Thomas expressed his thanks to all lawyers who submitted resumes and statements of interest, and said the court would retain them for future consideration to fill vacancies. The board will promulgate regulations to implement MCLE and approve qualified providers, appoint an MCLE director and authorize staff hiring. Members receive no compensation beyond expenses to attend meetings and perform duties. |
