Rolewick chairs court's professionalism efforts The Illinois Supreme Court has appointed Wheaton attorney David F. Rolewick as chair of its new Commission on Professionalism, pursuant to Rule 799 that was adopted Sept. 29. The court also announced Nov. 4 the names of 14 members of the commission, which was established to promote principles of integrity, professionalism and civility among the bench and bar. The commission also is charged with fostering commitment to eliminate bias and divisiveness in the legal and judicial systems, and to ensure that equitable, effective and efficient resolution of problems and disputes are provided. Rolewick, a partner in Rolewick & Gutzke and member of the ISBA Corporation, Securities and Business Law Section Council, also chaired the court's Special Committee on Professionalism that conducted a series of civility hearings around the state. Members of the commission include two members of the ISBA Assembly: 3rd Circuit Associate Judge Richard L. Tognarelli of Edwardsville and Sonni C. Williams, assistant corporation counsel for the City of Peoria. Tognarelli also is secretary of the Com-mittee on Public Relations and a member of the Committee on Judicial Advisory Polls. Williams serves on the Committee on Judicial Evaluations Outside Cook County. Other members include Michael W. Coffield of Chicago, member of the Alternative Dispute Resolution Section Council; Lawrence M. Templer of Jolivette & Templer, Chicago, member of the Committee on Professional Conduct, and Debra B. Walker of Clausen Miller, Chicago, who serves in the Illinois Bar Foundation board. Also Prof Bruce A. Boyer of the Loyola University School of Law; 18th Circuit Judge Kathryn E. Creswell of Wheaton; Prof. C. Kristina Gunsalis of the University of Illinois College of Law; Jeanette Hunter of East Moline; Prof. Robert Gilbert Johnston of The John Mar-shall Law School; Gordon B. Nash Jr. of Gardner, Carton & Douglas, Chicago, a past president of the Chicago Bar Association; Gwendolyn Yvette Rowan of Chicago, executive director of the Cook County Bar Association, and Appellate Justice Stephen L. Spomer of Marion. The federal judiciary will be represented, pursuant to Rule 799(b)(2), by Judge Michael P. McCuskey of U.S. District Court for the Central District, Urbana, a member of the ISBA Civil Practice and Procedure Section Council. Mary T. Robinson of Chicago, administrator of the Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission, is an ex officio member of the Commission on Professionalism. She serves on the ISBA Committee on Mental Health Law and Special Committee on Ancillary Services. Length of the terms of the new members were not specified by the court. Although the appointments are to be for three years each, the rule permits staggering the terms so no more than one-third may expire in one year. |
