Board OKs section name
The name of the ISBA Juvenile Justice Section has been changed to Child Law Section, signifying its expanding role in legal issues related to abuse and neglect, adoption and education of children, guardianships and family law.
The request by the section for a new name and scope statement was approved by the ISBA Board of Governors during its Jan. 27 meeting in Chicago.
In addition to disseminating information, proposing legislation and enhancing skills of lawyers in related practices, the section will provide a forum for “the refinement and improvement of laws and systems impacting children” in all legal areas.
The Board of Governors also approved a recommendation that the Special Com-mittee on Implementing the Mentoring Program be given the status of a Standing Committee on Mentoring.
Since the mentoring program was launched two years ago, the ISBA MentorCenter has recruited 113 mentors to assist 331 participating mentees.
The committee scope statement includes raising awareness of the importance of mentoring, promoting the services of the MentorCenter, and coordinating educational and social opportunities for participants.
Vacancies are filled
The Board of Governors on Jan. 27 filled two vacancies: one on the ISBA Assembly and another on the Illinois Bar Foundation board.
Lanark attorney Edward J. Mitchell, a member of the Elder Law Section Council, was appointed to a 15th Circuit Assembly vacancy. Susan M. Brazas, who held the seat, has relocated from Rock City to Rockford in the 17th Circuit.
April G. Troemper of Heyl, Royster, Voelker & Allen, Springfield, was named the 4th District representative on the Bar Foundation board. She replaces Thomas M. Harris of Bloomington, who resigned because of other commitments.
