People's Law Schools slated
With the assistance of an ISBA grant, the Jefferson County Bar Association is conducting a seven-week People's Law School curriculum on Thursday evenings. Six of the programs are at the Rend Lake College MarketPlace in Mt. Vernon.
The schedule began Feb. 2 with family law, and includes accidents, injuries and damages on Feb. 9; estate planning, wills and probate on Feb. 16; real estate law on Feb. 23; circuit and appellate court on March 2; the criminal law system on March 9, and traffic, DUI and secretary of state hearings on March 16.
The circuit and appellate court session on March 2 will take place in the Jefferson County Courthouse.
People's Law Schools cover areas of the legal system that result in the most frequent issues for area residents. Members of the bar association explain procedures and help people resolve problems.
For information about obtaining an ISBA grant for such a program, a bar association official may call assistant executive director David N. Anderson at (800) 252-8908.
