ABA leader to laud women in law
ISBA President Irene F. Bahr has issued an invitation to law firms and bar associations to attend a Chicago luncheon next month at which Karen J. Mathis, president of the American Bar Association, will be the featured speaker.
The event, on the theme of “Celebrating Wom-en in the Profession,” will take place at 12 noon Wednesday, March 14, in The Standard Club.
Mathis, a partner in a Denver law firm, was installed as ABA president last August during the annual meeting in Honolulu. A member of the House of Delegates since 1982, she was its chair from 2000 to 2002.
Mathis also has chaired the ABA Section of General Practice, Solo and Small Firm, and the Commission on Women in the Pro-fession.
A 1975 graduate of the University of Colorado School of Law, she has honorary degrees from the Michigan State University College of Law, Southwestern Law School, Siena College and the University of Denver.
