Lake County Bar honors trio
The Lake County Bar Association honored two veteran members and one newer lawyer, all from Waukegan, during its semi-annual President's Dinner on Jan. 26 in Lake Forest.
Donald T. Morrison and Harold H. Winer received Professional Excellence Awards. Patricia L. Cornell was named Outstanding Young Lawyer. The keynote speaker, Supreme Court Justice Anne M. Burke, also was honored.
Morrison, who was president of the association in 1978, is of counsel to Morrison & Morrison. A 1949 graduate of the Northwestern University School of Law who served in the Navy until 1954, he has practiced in personal injury and eminent domain for 52 years.
Winer saw Army service in Okinawa and Korea during and after World War II and was a juvenile probation officer in Chicago before graduating from The John Marshall Law School in 1960. He is a prosecutor for the villages of Deerfield and Vernon Hills.
Cornell, an associate in the Law Offices of Thomas Gurewitz since 2003, chairs the LCBA Young Lawyers Committee. Primarily in matrimonial law practice, she serves on the family law seminar planning committee.
School honors Kunkel
William R. Kunkel of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom, Chicago, will be honored by alumni of St. Ignatius College Prep during its 26th annual law luncheon Friday, March 2, in the Mid-Day Club on Chase Plaza.
Kunkel will receive the Award of Excellence in the Field of Law. Nina S. Appel, former dean of the Loyola University School of Law, will be given an Honorary Diploma.
A 1974 graduate of the prep school, Kunkel received his law degree cum laude from Harvard in 1981. He concentrates in mergers, acquisitions, corporate finance and securities matters.

The honoraria circuit
Wheaton attorney Joseph F. Mirabella Jr., a past president of the DuPage County Bar Association, will be honored during a reception and roast at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 12, in the Hilton Hotel, Lisle.

Chicago attorney Paul S. Anderson, who is Honorary Consul General of Norway, will welcome participants in the annual Nordic Luncheon and Marketplace on Saturday, March 17, at Park Ridge Country Club.

The Linn Inn of Court was established Jan. 18, and Judge Richard Linn of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit received a ceremonial charter during its first meeting in the Dirksen Federal Courthouse.
Assistant Kane County state's attorneys Greg A. Sams and Mark D. Stajdohar have been honored for outstanding service during 2006.
Sames was named Prosecutor of the Year. Considered the office's best researcher, he prosecuted three murder cases and several other involving sexual assault, armed violence, unlawful use of weapons and involuntary manslaughter.
Stajdohar, named Ace Litigator, tried eight cases to verdict as first chair and six others as second chair, including two first-degree murders.
Chicago attorney Robert A. Clifford received the Justice William Brennan Award last month while a featured presenter for the 26th annual National Trial Advocacy College at the University of Virginia Law School.
Robert James Mogley of Chesterfield, Mo., formerly of Oak Brook and a member of the Illinois bar since 1964, recently earned the privileged title of Senior Counselor from the Bar of the State of Missouri in recognition of his long and distinguished career.
Former state legislator Daniel M. Pierce, who is of counsel to Rubin & Norris, Chicago, has been elected to a two-year term as president of the North Shore Sanitary District. He has been a board member for four years.
Professional achievement
T. Ron Jasinski-Herbert, a past president of the Advocates Society and editor of Polonia Today, was installed Jan. 27 as president of the Chicago Society of the Polish National Alliance.
Prof. Mickie A. Piatt, executive director of the intellectual property law program at the Chicago-Kent College of Law, is serving a one-year term as president of the Chicago Intellectual Property Alliance.
Chicago attorney Thomas J. Handler is chair of the annual Family Office Series Conference of the Institute for International Research this month in Miami. He is managing principal of the Advanced Planning and Family Office Group at Handler, Thayer & Duggan.
During the conference on Mastering Tax and Estate Planning, Handler will present sessions on Family Risk Management and Pre-Marital Planning and Asset Protection Strategies.
Peter F. Donati, head of the Employment Service Group at Levenfeld Pearlstein, Chicago, has been appointed to the board of the Human Resource Association of Greater Oak Brook.
Richard E. Gottlieb of Chicago, head of Dykema's national Consumer Financial Services litigation practice, has been elected to the American College of Consumer Financial Services Lawyers and will be inducted next month in Washington, D.C.
The International Bar Association has named Gabrielle M. Buckley of Vedder, Price, Kaufman & Kammholz, Chicago, to a two-year term as co-chair of its Immigration and Nationality Committee.
