Fiction contest open to lawyers
Creative, literate ISBA members are invited to enter the fifth annual National Legal Fiction Writing Competition for Lawyers. The deadline for entries is June 30. The submitted work, which may be a short story or excerpt from a novel in the legal fiction genre, is strictly limited to a maximum of 2,500 words. It must be typed. Entries should be submitted to SEAK Inc. Legal Fiction Competition, Attn: Stephen Babitsky, P.O. Box 739, Falmouth, MA 02541. For more information, contact Kevin J. Only one entry may be submitted by each attorney, and there is no fee. A panel will judge the works for originality and writing quality, and the potential of the author. First prize is $1,000 cash, plus a luncheon on Oct. 21 at the Sea Crest Resort in Falmouth on Cape Cod, Mass., in conjunction with a National Legal Writing Workshop from Oct. 20 to 22. Second prize is a $1,000 gift certificate from SEAK Inc., sponsor of the competition and workshop. Third prize is a $500 gift certificate. All authors will maintain original copyrights to their competition materials. Notice of the winning entry will be disseminated to the Associated Press and 100 New York literary agents. |
