Summer bar golf outings promise re-spites of enjoyable collegiality, but often at considerable cost. Golf-and-dinner packages in the Chicago area range from $125 to $185 this year.

The Lee and Ogle County Bar Associ-ations, however, manage to hold the line against green-fee inflation. The charge for teeing off in their joint outing July 20 at Lost Nation Golf Course near Dixon is only $31, riding cart included! A choice of dinner entrees is priced at $18 for chicken or $20 for steak, with all trimmings.

One of the more famous golfing events takes place on the last Friday of July each year. The 61st annual Winnebago County Bar Clambake is scheduled on July 28 at Macktown Forest Preserve near Rockton.

Highlights include 7:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. shotgun starts; three-hour lunch of clam chowder, shrimp dishes, oysters, brats and burgers; dinner with choice of lobster/chicken or barbecue ribs/chicken.
