Attorney will obtain funding for cancer cure in triathlon

Northbrook attorney Barry Stewart Silver will participate in the Lake Geneva Olympic Distance Triathlon on Saturday, Sept. 9, to raise funds for pediatric brain cancer research through the Rory David Deutsch Foundation.

The foundation was created by the family of Rory David Deutsch, who died at age 7 from an inoperable brain tumor. “Losing Rory was devastating to his family, but somehow despite their obvious grief, they were able to create this charity for the benefit of others,” Silver said.

The foundation supports efforts to find a cure for brain cancer at Children's Memorial Hospital in Chicago and the Duke University Medical School.

Silver, who is 57, will complete a 0.9-mile swim, a 24.8-mile bike ride and a 6.2-mile run in the triathlon. He will be wearing a shirt that displays the names of every contributor that he is aware of.

He has participated during the past six years in triathlong that support the Leukemia Society, the Les Turner ALS Foundation, Y-Me of Chicagoland, the Shona Goorvich Memorial Fund, Canavan Research Illinois, and the Fanconi Anemia Research Fund.

Donations may be mailed to the Rory David Deutsch Foundation, P.O. Box 547, Highland Park, Ill. 60035, or sent online to www.roryd.org.
