An ISBA Assembly member for eight years, Roberts served on the Board of Governors from 1994 to 1999. He was a founding member of the Board of Regents of the ISBA Academy of Illinois Lawyers and its chancellor for one year.
He chaired the Special Committee on Implementation of Lobbying Issues from 1993 to 1999, and the Special Committee on Legislative Procedures in 1998.
Beyond the ISBA, Roberts chaired a Task Force on Professional Practice that was created by the Illinois General Assembly in 1999 to study caseloads, salaries, technological needs, and other issues related to recruitment and retention of attorneys in the criminal and juvenile justice systems.
He was Sangamon County state's attorney before serving as U.S. attorney for the Central District of Illinois from 1986 to 1993. He chaired the attorney general's Advisory Committee of U.S. Attorneys and was senior advisor to the attorney general in Washington, D.C.
Roberts has been president of the Illinois State's Attorneys Association, the Sangamon County Bar Association and the Lincoln Douglas Inn of Court, and he was chief counsel to Governor Jim Edgar from 1995 to 1997.
As managing partner of Hinshaw & Cul-bertson, Roberts is responsible for the firm's 11 offices in Illinois and 15 in other United States cities. He also chairs the firm's national Business Litigation Practice Group.
His previous honors include the Edmund J. Randolph Award for Outstanding Service from the U.S. Department of Justice, and a Distinguished Alumnus Award from Illinois Wesleyan University for distinguished contributions to society, professional distinction and civic leadership.
A member of the ISBA Family Law Section Council and the Committee on Legislation, Albrecht serves on the Special Committee on Electronic Research Services for Members and is a past chair of the Committee on Legal Technology.
She also has been a tireless contributor of personal and professional time as a presenter in continuing legal education seminars, including the first Solo and Small Firm Conference last fall.
In addition to lecturing on domestic relations or legal technology issues, she provides detailed materials that seminar participants can use in their practices.
As a member of the legislation committee and Family Law Section, Albrecht contributes remarkable effort toward tracking, analyzing and improving legislative proposals that affect the practice of law in Illinois.
She summarizes opinions of her section council on pending bills and is always available to discuss concerns with legislators and ISBA legislative staff members. She often suggests amendments that could make bills more acceptable to the bar association.
“The net result is that we start with a problem with a bill and end with a pleased legislator who has got something to pass,” said ISBA legislative affairs director Jim Covington.
Albrecht also has testified before General Assembly committees on issues that arise among provisions of bills.
An active member of the Kankakee County Bar Association and its Society of Women in Law, she is a resource for the Kankakee Community College Committee on Paralegal/Legal Assistant Studies Program.
