Lake Lucerne's blue waters reflect a city of treasures

After a day of hiking through the treasures of Lucerne, Switzerland, participants in the ISBA travel program will enjoy a cruise on the blue waters of Lake Lucerne.

The optional Lucerne City tour is the first highlight of the fall trip to Switzerland and Northern Italy that will be led by incoming President Irene F. Bahr of Wheaton.

Scheduled from Sept. 22 to 30, the experience is being coordinated by Go Next (formerly Global Holidays). The all-inclusive price is $1,899 per person, double occupancy (plus taxes), with departure from Chicago and St. Louis.

The itinerary begins with departure Friday, Sept. 22, for Zurich, Switzerland, and Saturday, Sept. 23, transfer to a first-class hotel in Lucerne.

Sunday, Sept. 24, is a free day for sightseeing or taking the optional city tour of covered bridges, historic monuments, well-preserved churches, medieval squares, ancient guildhalls and cobbled alleys.

ISBA travelers will visit Lucerne's Old Town, a Baroque Jesuit Church, Chapel Bridge, and the Lion Monument to Swiss Guards, plus shops, galleries and cafes. Majestic Pilatus, Rigi and Stanserhorn mountains surround the city.

Monday, Sept. 25, also a free day, offers an optional Spectacular Swiss Peaks tour with visits to Interlaken and Grindelwald, and a mountain train ride for views of the snowcapped Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau peaks.

On Tuesday, Sept. 26, the ISBA group will leave Lucerne on a deluxe motor coach transfer to a first-class hotel in Lake Como, Italy, via the Swiss lakeside resort town of Lugano between Monte Bre and Monte Sal Salvatore.

Wednesday, Sept. 27, is a free day for exploring the Lake Como area or taking the optional tour, Treasures of Lake Como, its floral balconies, ornate villas and rocky promontories, a boat cruise and sampling of regional wines.

Thursday, Sept. 28, is a day of leisure.

On Friday, Sept. 29, an optional tour of Lake Maggiore and Borromean Island is offered. Highlights are captivating views of the Alps and lush Mediterranean flora, the villas and cafes of Stresa, and a cruise to 17th century Borromeo Palace on the island of Isola Bella.

Irene Bahr will be host for the festive farewell dinner that evening. The return flight departs Saturday, Sept. 30, from Milan.

The all-inclusive price of the nine-day travel opportunity includes round-trip air transportation, ground transfers, hotel accommodations, professional guides, a welcome reception, daily buffet breakfasts and a farewell dinner.
