Golfers support foundation, laud ‘Pillars' of bar

The Illinois Bar Foundation plans to make the Champaign County Bar Association's 15th annual Capel Cup golf outing on Monday, June 26, an extra special occasion.

The association and the Bar Foundation will honor a select group of Champaign-Urbana area attorneys as Pillars of the Profession during a dinner that follows an afternoon of golfing.

A CCBA committee evaluated the exemplary service to the profession of the nominees and selected the following eight as the most deserving award recipients:

Stanley B. Balbach, Sam Erwin, French L. Fraker, Frederick S. Green, Lawrence R. Hatch, Stuart M. Mamer, Darius E. Phebus and Richard L. Thies.

The Capel Cup outing will take place at the Stone Creek Golf Club in Urbana, beginning at 1 p.m. with a shotgun start. The reception and dinner are scheduled for 5:30 p.m.

Fees are $90 for the golf and dinner package, $65 for golf only, or $30 for dinner only. Registrations should be made by Monday, June 19. Call Jerry Gorman at (217) 403-0116 for more information.

Checks payable to the Illinois Bar Foundation should be mailed to the Illinois Bar Center, 424 S. Second St., Springfield, Ill. 62701.

Half of the proceeds from the event will be donated to the Bar Foundation. The other half will be shared by the Land of Lincoln Legal Assistance Foundation building fund and the Court Appointed Special Advocates of Champaign County.

Urbana attorney John E. Thies, a member of the ISBA Board of Governors, is chair of the golf outing committee.
