The arrival of more conducive spring weather last month brought members of the unofficial ISBA Sunday Runners out for their weekly jaunts on Saturday mornings.
All ISBA members are welcome to join the group at 8 a.m. in Lincoln Park near the totem pole on Recreation Drive off of Lake Shore Drive and Addison Street. The meeting place is the first bench south of the parking booth (no charge that early).
Led by ISBA past presidents Leonard F. Amari and Robert K. Downs, the Sunday Runners (every Saturday) offer three speed levels: fast runners, less fast runners, and walkers.
Since its inception, there has been only one rule: “There is no obligation to show up. If you come, you come,” say Amari and Downs.
The runners finish their outings with breakfasts in The Bagel at Broadway and Barry, where free parking is available behind the restaurant.
Call Amari & Locallo at (312) 255-8550, ext. 126, to be added to the Sunday Runners e-mail notice list.
ISBA Sunday Runners have sadly missed the smiling face of Mary E. “Doll” Hanssel at Saturday morning gatherings since her death on May 26.
The longtime secretary to Leonard F. Amari, past president of the ISBA and Justinian Society, had also been executive assistant to the Justinian newsletter, which Amari edits.
“There was no kinder woman in the world than Mary,” said incoming Justinian President Celia G. Gamrath. “She will be greatly missed.”
