Lawyer writes history novel Evanston attorney Leila Merrell Foster, also a United Methodist minister and clinical psychologist, is the author of “Search for the Cross,” a historical novel (ISBA 978-1-60190-119-3). The work of inspirational fiction focuses on Empress Helena. She was the mother of Emperor Constantine, who ruled for toleration of Christianity in the fourth century and gave it favored status in the Holy Roman Empire. Helena's story is intertwined with that of Sylvia, whose Christian parents had been martyred. Helena makes a pilgrimage to Jerusalem with Sylvia as her maid. In Foster's view, Helena “is one of the strong women we know from the records of ancient history. She is a fascinating combination of a person of power and of piety.” A graduate of the Northwestern University School of Law and Garrett Theological Seminary, Foster has visited many places where Helena traveled. She has written more than 50 books, chapters, articles and videotape scripts, plus 23 children's books. Foster has served on the ISBA Health Care Law Section Council and the Committee on Mental Health Law. For more information, access www.capstonefiction.com. • • • Chicago attorney Alexander L.
