Century mark earns acclaim for law firms Law firms and bar-related organizations that were established 100 or more years ago in the state are eligible for recognition by the Illinois State Historical Society. Since it was established in 1984, the society's Centennial Awards Program has honored more than 1,100 civic and commercial institutions, including the Illinois State Bar Association. Centennial Awards for 2007 will be presented Saturday, Oct. 6, during a reception in the Executive Mansion in Springfield. Applicants must provide evidence of continuous operation for a century or more. Documentation may include copies of original charters, minutes of meetings, newspaper articles and contemporaneous city directories. Each recipient will receive a plaque, a one-year membership in the society, and permission to use the centennial logo on business stationery.
