Curriculum Law grads receive $60,000 Four May graduates of The John Marshall Law School have received a total of $60,000 in public service scholarships to help reduce student loan obligations. Karl R. Tetzlaff and Nicholas J. Ftikas each earned a $25,000 Lucy Sprague Public Service Scholarship, given by the family of a former John Marshall law student who was murdered. Tetzlaff will begin his public service career as a judicial clerk helping the chief judge of the Boulder, Colo., District establish a drug court treatment program. Ftikas would like to work on zoning, land use, demolition and urban planning in the office of Chicago corporation counsel. Ian Andrew Cooper received a $5,000 Elmer Kissane Scholarship given by the family of a former assistant Cook County state's attorney. Cooper plans to join the state's attorney's office, where he has been a 711 clerk. Benjamin Joseph received a $5,000 William J. Sweetman Scholarship to help defray expenses of his summer internship with the U.S. Department of the Treasury. He will join PricewaterhouseCoopers in Chicago and work on an LL.M. degree in employee benefits.
Animal law discussed A panel discussion on “Passing Animal Legislation” will be conducted from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 28, in room 8005 at the DePaul Center, 1 E. Jackson, Chicago. The sponsor is the College of Law's Center for Animal Law. Panelists include Ledy Van Kavage, director of legal and legislative affairs of the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, and State Sen. Donald F. Harmon.
Funding contributed The Chicago-Kent College of Law has received a gift of $1 million from the estate of Sadie F. Berkson, widow of 1918 alumnus I. J. Berkson. The gift will supplement the I. J. and Sadie Berkson Scholarship Fund and support the I. J. Berkson Reserve Reading Room, which they previously established. Mrs. Berkson, who died in February 2006, served on the law school board of overseers for 14 years and for several years was co-chair of the Chicago Consular Ball, a benefit for the Library of International Relations. |
