Harlington Wood photos displayed Retired federal judge Harlington Wood Jr. is sharing the products of his photography hobby with fellow residents and staff members of the Menard Convalescent Center in Petersburg. Wood and his wife, Cathryn, have donated 11 framed prints that depict Abraham Lincoln's legacy and pioneer life in New Salem during the four seasons. A photographer since boyhood, the judge has captured images around the world in places such as Russia, Ireland, Mongolia and Hawaii. But Lincoln's life on the prairies of Illinois has always been his favorite subject. In fact, Wood has portrayed the 16th president on stage in the play, “Forever This Land,” at New Salem and other venues. A 1948 graduate of the University of Illinois College of Law, he practiced law in Springfield before a progression of federal appointments led to his nomination to the U.S. Court of Appeals in 1976. Now 87, Wood has been retired since 2003. For the past two years, he has lived in the convalescent facility. He is writing a book titled “An Unmarked Trail: The Odyssey of a Federal Judge.” |
