A pair of boots in honor of Army Reserve Capt. Shane Mahaffee, a former Waukegan attorney, stands among the more than 3,400 deployed in Chicago's Grant Park throughout Memorial Day weekend.

The display represented U.S. military personnel who have perished while on active duty in Iraq. Mahaffee died May 15, 2006, after a roadside bomb went off under his vehicle (ISBA Bar News, June 2006, page 17).
