Juvenile reform to be aired The Illinois Juvenile Justice Initiative (JJI) will conduct a day-long interdisciplinary symposium, A Framework for Illinois Juvenile Justice Reform, on Friday, March 24, at the Embassy Suites Hotel, Chicago. Presentations will be made by legal advocates, professionals and policy-makers about implications for practitioners resulting from emerging systemic reforms of the juvenile justice system in Illinois. Morning sessions on Building a Com-prehensive Continuum of Care will cover developments in alternatives to detention (JDAI) and corrections (Redeploy Illinois), and the new state Department of Juvenile Justice that will take effect July 1. Afternoon sessions on New Developments in Juvenile Justice Case Law, Research and Legislation will emphasize the U.S. Supreme Court decision in Simmons that overturned the death penalty for juveniles.
