Career panels, job fair offer keys to success

In conjunction with its CareerCenter partner, the ISBA will present a Career De--velopment Conference, a dynamic three-part event, from 2 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 28, at the Wyndham Hotel, 633 N. St Clair, Chicago.

This conference for members, non-members and law students consists of three separate programs to appeal to different needs.

From 2 to 4 p.m., Finding Your Next Job provides essential strategies and techniques for seeking employment in today's legal market.

You'll learn about the five essential rules that govern how the law job market works; the two questions every law employer want you to answer; the four-step process that will prepare you for any law-related interview; how to organize and implement an efficient and successful job search; how to write an attention-grabbing resume, and much more.

From 4 to 6 p.m., a free Job Fair offers a chance to network with some of the leading firms and agencies in the Chicago area. Resumes are welcome.

Employed attorneys who would like to plan for a more successful career will find what they need at the Career Management Seminar. From 6 to 8:30 p.m., this program will help you create a career roadmap and take control of your future.

Speakers will reveal what three skills are the most valued in today's market; why the best lawyers don't necessarily have the best careers; what you can do to become a more valuable contributor to a law firm, and why law firm associates have less time to prove themselves and what they can do about it.

You'll also find out why a career based on conducting legal research is likely to reach a dead end, and what is the best way to take a break from the practice of law and then return to it.

At this program you'll also receive a comprehensive workbook that includes a career skill inventory, a 10-factor process for assessing whether any employer will meet your career needs, and other career resources that you can use long after the seminar is over.

The registration fee for Finding Your Next Job is $59 for members, $79 for non-members, and $39 for law students. The Job Fair is free.
