Mental Health Law Day marked May 10

The annual ISBA Mental Health Law Day seminar will be conducted from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, May 10, at the Chicago Athletic Association.

Co-sponsors are the Illinois Psychological Association, Illinois Psychiatric Association, Illinois Hospital Association, Illinois Guardianship Association and National Association of Social Workers.

The program will open with welcoming remarks by Mark B. Epstein of Epstein & Epstein, Chicago, chair of the Committee on Mental Health Law, and vice chair Robert J. O'Connor, deputy general counsel for the Illinois Department of Human Services, Chicago.

At 9:15 a.m., Outpatient Court Order Medication and Treatment will be discussed by committee member Augusta R. Clarke, an assistant DuPage County state's attorney.

At 10:15 a.m., The Value to the Court, Counsel and Recipient of a Guardian ad Litem will be outlined by committee member Terrie Adrienne Rymer, legal advocate for the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Chicago.

At 11 a.m., the topic will be New Legi-slation on the Agreed Order for Alternative Treatment or Care and Custody, which became effective Jan. 1.

The speakers are committee members Prof. Mark J. Heyrman of the University of Chicago Law School, director of clinical programs, and Andreas M. Liewald, legal service attorney for the Guardianship and Advocacy Commission's Madden Mental Health Center at Hines.

A panel of morning presenters will answer questions from 12 noon until the 12:30 p.m. luncheon break.

At 1:30 p.m., Heyrman will offer a Legislative Roundup of Newly Passed Legislation and Important Pending Legislative Matters.

At 2 p.m., an Update on Important Elder Law Issues will be given by Susan L. Kennedy of Chicago.

At 3:15 p.m., committee secretary Joseph T. Monahan of Monahan & Cohen, Chicago, will provide a Confidentiality Act Update and Risk Management Techniques.
