John O'Brien elected to head ISBA in 2009 John G. O'Brien of Arlington Heights, a member of the ISBA Board of Governors, has been elected third vice president of the Illinois State Bar Association and will be installed as president during the 2009 Annual Meeting. O'Brien defeated Mark E. Wojcik of Chicago by a vote of 4,437 to 1,925 in balloting that concluded May 10. The total of 6,361 in this two-candidate election was higher than 5,811 tallied in 2003, when Irene F. Bahr of Wheaton was elected. In a three-candidate race in 2004 that registered 6,797 total votes, O'Brien was second to Joseph G. Bisceglia of Chicago. Incumbent board member Richard D. Felice of Wheaton has been re-elected in Area I (18th Circuit, DuPage County) over challenger Steven B. Levy of Naperville. The vote was 349 to 189. In a contested election among four candidates for one Cook County seat on the Board of Governors, the winner is Mauro Glorioso of Westchester. He received 964 of the 2,425 votes cast. The other candidates were Paula H. Holderman (633 votes), Patrice Ball-Reed (457), and Letitia Spunar-Sheats (371). Candidates for five other board seats were uncontested, including incumbents Kim E. Presbrey of Aurora in Area III (12th, 13th, 16th, 21st Circuits) and Dennis J. Orsey of Granite City in Area VIII (3rd, 20th Circuits). Others elected are Anita M. DeCarlo of Chicago, Cook County Under Age 37; Elizabeth L. Jensen of Peoria in Area IV (10th, 14th, 15th Circuits), and Carl L. Draper of Springfield in Area VI (7th, 8th, 9th Circuits). Results were not available at press time for the 28 candidates for 23 Cook County seats on the ISBA Assembly. |
