800 admitted on May 4
The Illinois Supreme Court admitted about 800 attorneys on May 4 during ceremonies in five judicial districts, bringing the total registration roll to an estimated 82,000-plus.
ISBA President Bob Downs spoke at the 1st District ceremony for 535 admittees in the Grand Ballroom of Navy Pier, Chicago. It was conducted by Justices Thomas R. Fitzgerald and Mary Ann McMorrow.
In the 2nd District, ISBA Second Vice President Joseph G. Bisceglia addressed 83 admittees in the Hemmens Memorial Building auditorium, Elgin. Chief Justice Robert R. Thomas conducted the ceremony, and an ISBA reception followed it.
In the 3rd District ceremony, conducted at the Appellate Courthouse in Ottawa for 20 admittees by Justice Thomas L. Kilbride, the ISBA speaker was John G. O'Brien of the Board of Governors. An ISBA reception followed.
In the 4th District, ISBA Third Vice President Jack Carey spoke to 24 admittees in a ceremony conducted by Justice Rita B. Garman in the Supreme Court Building. An ISBA reception followed in the appellate courtroom.
In the 5th District, President-elect Irene F. Bahr welcomed 146 admittees as Justice Lloyd A. Karmeier conducted the ceremony at the Gateway Convention Center in Collinsville. An ISBA reception followed.
