ISBA E-Clips combines cases, news, CLE info

For years, free e-mail case digests have been among ISBA's most popular member benefits. Now we've combined digests with links to legal news and upcoming ISBA Law Ed programs to create ISBA E-Clips, a daily e-mail newsletter. ISBA members thus get more information, but in an easy-to-scan format that consumes even less of their valuable time. The first issue of E-Clips was delivered May 4.

New html format

E-mail viewing and delivery technology have come a long way since the 1990's, when ISBA debuted its e-mail case digests. Those advances allow us to send case summaries in an attractive, reader-friendly Web-page-like (“html”) format.

Most issues of ISBA E-Clips include digests of newly decided Illinois Supreme and Appellate Court and/or federal 7th Circuit opinions. Each case caption is identified by subject matter (e.g., “medical malpractice,” “child custody”) so you can determine at a glance whether you're interested in reading more. Each digest briefly describes the case and holding and links to the full text of the slip opinion on the Illinois Supreme Court or 7th Circuit Web sites.

Every E-Clips issue – even those in which there are no new opinions – features links to law-related news stories from major Illinois newspapers and selections from the ISBA Law Ed calendar. By following the Law Ed links, E-Clips recipients can register on the spot for ISBA CLE programs.

That's especially important now that MCLE is the rule in Illinois and ISBA's Law Ed CLE program is geared up to meet the need. Besides making it easy for you to stay on top of ISBA's schedule of upcoming programs, you'll be able to count on E-Clips for the latest on how the rule affects you as the MCLE Commission develops its administrative structure.

Signing up and signing off

ISBA E-Clips goes out to all ISBA members for whom we have e-mail addresses, unless you've told us not to send you e-mail in general or that you don't want E-Clips in particular.

Not getting E-Clips but wish you were? Click on “Case Digests” at www.isba.org (the first entry under “E-Mail Services” at the top of the left-hand navigation bar) and sign up.

If you've signed up but still aren't getting E-Clips, please check your spam filter. (If you don't know where your spam filter is, contact your e-mail administrator.) If it isn't being blocked by your spam filter but you still aren't receiving it, e-mail Jean McKnight at webmaster@isba.org and let her know. E-mail delivery is complicated by the spam filters and virus screeners many people understandably use to protect themselves from unwanted e-mail, but we'll do our best to make sure each issue reaches its target.

Unsubscribing from ISBA E-Clips is as easy as clicking on the "unsubscribe" link at the bottom of each issue. Or, you can e-mail Jean McKnight at webmaster@isba.org and tell her to remove you from the E-Clips mailing list, or call Jean Fenski at (800)252-8908.
