Italian, Swiss lakes region on fall itinerary

Brochures now available in the ISBA Chicago Regional Office provide details and a day-to-day itinerary for the fall travel opportunity that will be led by incoming President Irene F. Bahr.

The nine-day tour, scheduled from Sept. 22 to 30, is coordinated by Go Next (formerly Global Holidays). The all-inclusive price is $1,899 per person, double occupancy (plus taxes), with departure from Chicago and St. Louis.

Highlights include round-trip air transportation, ground transfers, hotel accommodations, professional guides, a welcome reception, daily buffet breakfasts and a farewell dinner.

“This trip allows you to decide how much you want to do with the group or simply explore on your own,” Bahr said.

The itinerary begins with departure Friday, Sept. 22, for Zurich, Switzerland, and Saturday, Sept. 23, transfer to a first-class hotel in Lucerne.

Sunday, Sept. 24, is a free day for sightseeing in Lucerne or taking the optional Lucerne City tour that includes the old quarter, Chapel Bridge, the Lion Monument to Swiss Guards, views of Pilatus, Rigi and Stanserhorn mountains, and a boat ride on Lake Lucerne.

Monday, Sept. 25, also a free day, offers an optional Spectacular Swiss Peaks tour with visits to Interlaken and Grindelwald, and a mountain train ride for views of the snowcapped Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau peaks.

On Tuesday, Sept. 26, the ISBA group will leave Lucerne on a deluxe motor coach transfer to a first-class hotel in Lake Como, Italy, via the Swiss lakeside resort town of Lugano between Monte Bre and Monte Sal Salvatore.

Wednesday, Sept. 27, is a free day for exploring the Lake Como area or taking the optional tour, Treasures of Lake Como, its floral balconies, ornate villas and rocky promontories, a boat cruise and sampling of regional wines.

Thursday, Sept. 28, is a day of leisure.

On Friday, Sept. 29, an optional tour of Lake Maggiore and Borromean Island is offered. Highlights are captivating views of the Alps and lush Mediterranean flora, the villas and cafes of Stresa, and a cruise to 17th century Borromeo Palace on the island of Isola Bella.
