Legal writing prizes awarded

Three previously announced winners of the 2006 Lincoln Award Legal Writing Contest will receive plaques during the ISBA Annual Meeting next month at the Abbey on Lake Geneva. They already have received their cash prizes. They are:

First place ($2,000) – Justin Lee Heather of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom, Chicago, a member of the ISBA Young Lawyers Division Council.

His article, “The New Dual Standard of Review and the Future of the Admissibility of Expert Opinion Testimony Under Illinois Law in the Wake of In re Commitment of Simons,” was published in the February issue of the Illinois Bar Journal.

Second place ($1,000) – Kerry J. Bryson of the Office of State Appellate Defender, Ottawa, vice chair of the ISBA Committee on Corrections and Sentencing, for “The Illinois Post-Conviction Hearing Act Revisited.”

Third Place ($500) – Travis J. Ketterman of Whitfield & McGann, Chicago, an associate newsletter editor of the Federal Civil Practice Section, for “The Impact of an Employer's Bankruptcy on Employees.”
