Curriculum Justice McMorrow joins Loyola faculty Retired Supreme Court justice Mary Ann G. McMorrow has joined the faculty of the Loyola University School of Law as Distinguished Jurist in Residence and will participate in a variety of programs. A 1953 graduate of the law school, McMorrow recently donated to it the papers covering her career at the bar and on the bench. She has received the Loyola Law Alumni Medal of Excellence and the Illinois Bar Foundation Fellows Award for Distinguished Service to Law and Society. Law Dean David Yellen said the school is “pleased to have such a talented and committed public servant … rejoin the Loyola law community to provide insight and expertise following her remarkable career as a jurist.”
Legal, medical client counseling is studied The University of Illinois College of Law and College of Medicine are conducting a joint course this fall on “Client Counseling, Fact Investigation and In--terviewing.” Designed to train future attorneys and physicians to work together effectively, the course is being attended by 18 law students and 18 medical participants, including practicing physicians and residents, through Thanksgiving. The course includes a mock case with interviews, fact investigation and resolution counseling, and role playing scenarios with graduate social work students and community volunteers. Coordinators are Professors C. K. Gunsalus and J. Steven Beckett, and Doctors Robert Kirby and Joseph Goldberg. Lorna Geiler of Meyer Capel, Champaign, helped Beckett and Gunsalus develop the written curriculum.
Lecture scheduled Laurence J. Msall, president of the Civic Federation, will give the keynote address, “The Status and Future of Public Employee Retiree Benefits,” during the Chicago-Kent College of Law's 22nd annual Illinois Public Sector Labor Relations Law Program. News about faculty Prof. Ronald W. Staudt of the Chicago-Kent College of Law has been appointed to the board of trustees of the College of Law Practice Management, which honors distinguished professionals, sets standards of achievement and funds projects that enhance the quality of law practice management. A fellow of the college since 2004, Staudt also is associate vice president for law, business and technology for the Illinois Institute of Technology. He has taught at Chicago-Kent since 1978. • • • Alberto R. Coll has been named president of the International Human Rights Law Institute at the DePaul University College of Law, succeeding president emeritus M. Cherif Bassiouni. A native of Cuba and former dean of the U.S. Naval War College, Coll was principal deputy assistant Secretary of Defense in 1990. He received the Defense Department Medal for Outstanding Public Service in 1993. |
