Works of artists deck the walls of Chicago office By Stephen Anderson Four displays of original artwork have been installed on conference center walls of the ISBA Chicago Regional Office. They may be viewed through the end of the year. Assistant DuPage County state's attorney Karian G. Karavolos of the Criminal Prosecutions Bureau in Wheaton, a first-year ISBA member, provided a pair of works in oils and acrylics: a still life of flowers and a portrait of a lady in blue. An artist for many years, Karavolos has had displays in the Montgomery Ward Gallery at the University of Illinois, and in Chicago area homes and offices. Chicago attorney Carole J. Mallen submitted two scenic photographs made during her travels. A 1986 graduate of The John Marshall Law School, she serves on the board of the DuPage Association of Women Lawyers. Concentrating in civil litigation, contract support and medical review for defense firms and sole practitioners, Mallen has a certificate in public health from Northern Illinois University and a certificate in mediation from the DePaul University College of Law. Dominating one wall of the conference center are two circular oils by Tita Recometa-Brady, wife of Joliet attorney James M. Brady. Titled “Midlothian” and “The City is Coming,” they represent her vision of the changing landscape in a contemporary style. An art teacher in Joliet and Chicago until she retired in 2002, Tita has a master's degree in fine art from The Art Institute of Chicago. Her works are for sale. Diane Rose Dailing, wife of Rockford attorney Joseph A. Dailing, submitted a charcoal and pastel drawing titled “Sleeping Male with Ponytail,” which may be purchased. An adjunct in--structor in the art department of Rock Valley College in Rockford, Diane has three degrees from the University of Iowa, including a master's in fine arts. During the next two months, additional artwork will be evaluated by a reviewing committee for display after the first of the year in the Chicago office. Display space is being made available to aspiring artists, who are ISBA members or spouses. Since wall area is limited, only a few pieces can be exhibited at any time. An applicant should submit a photograph of the piece, along with title, the size, the artist's name, mailing address, e-mail address and telephone number to Janet M. Sosin, Illinois State Bar Association, Suite 900, 20 S. Clark St., Chicago, Ill. 60603. All artwork that is selected must be framed. The artist is responsible for all costs of shipping and insurance. If the artist wishes to offer a piece for sale, a business card with the sale price may be displayed with the artwork. An ISBA member wishing to purchase artwork must contact the artist directly. The art program is a member service administered by the ISBA Committee on Bar Services and Activities. For more information, contact Sosin at (312) 726-8775 or jsosin@isba.org. |
