Northwest suburban lawyers to be hosts for two parties The Northwest Suburban Bar Association will be host for two holiday parties next month. At 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, the NWSBA will begin its own event at magnum's steakhouse in Rolling Meadows with a reception, followed by 6:30 p.m. dinner and presentation of Holiday Party Excellence Awards. One of the recipients is Park Ridge attorney John E. “Jack” Owens, a past president of the association who has served on several nominating committees and conducted legal education seminars. He is a 1962 graduate of the DePaul University College of Law. Also being honored is Frank “Shoe” Schumacher, a Cook County Sheriff's Department member who runs the Rolling Meadows courthouse information desk. After service in the Korean War on the staff of Gen. James Van Fleet, he became a deputy sheriff. The NWSBA also is co-host for the 3rd Municipal District Domestic Relations Division holiday party at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19, at Peggy Kinnane's Irish Restaurant and pub in Arlington Heights. Chicago Bar The 84th annual Chicago Bar Association Christmas Spirits Show, “Young, Frank & Stein,” will be presented at 8 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, Dec. 11-15, in DePaul University's Merle Reskin Theatre. Chicago Council Daniel T. Coyne, associate clinical professor at the Chicago-Kent College of Law, was installed Oct. 2 as president of the Chicago Council of Lawyers. A board member since 1997, he has chaired the Bond Court Review Committee and Judicial Evaluation Committee.

DuPage County Bar The annual DuPage County Bar Association holiday party will take place from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, at the Arrowhead Country Club, Wheaton. Illinois Defense Counsel The Young Lawyers Division of the Illinois Association of Defense Trial Counsel collected and distributed school supplies and warm clothing last month for children in need around the state. Illinois Judges The Illinois Judges Association will broadcast a cable television program about jury service at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, on Chicago Access Network channel 21. IJA president, 8th Circuit Judge Mark A. Schuering is the moderator. Panelists are Cook County Judges Valarie E. Turner and William J. Haddad, and 19th Circuit Judge Raymond McKoski.
Jewish Judges Cook County Judge Lee Preston was installed Oct. 14 as president of the Jewish Judges Association. Other officers are Vice Presidents Edward R. Burr, Morton Denlow, Richard P. Goldenhersh and Shelley Sutker-Dermer; Secretaries Ronald S. Davis and Michael C. Zissman, and Treasurer Rhoda Davis Sweeney. Awards were presented during the annual dinner in Skokie.

One LCBA member, William Moca Fusz, has been deployed as a member of the Army 82nd Airborne Division out of Fort Bragg, N.C. Another member, Joseph Moca Fusz, is a Marine stationed in Quantico, Va. Both were admitted to the bar in 2006 and are sons of 19th Circuit Associate Judge Michael J. Fusz.
