Loyola law alumni honored The Loyola University School of Law and its alumni board presented four awards during a dinner on Oct. 27 in Chicago. Recipients include former Illinois attorney general Neil F. Hartigan, who received the Medal of Excellence. Others are retired appellate justice Gino L. DiVito of Tabet, DiVito & Rothstein, the Distinguished Jurist Award; Laura A. Caldwell, an adjunct professor, the St. Robert Bellarmine Award, and Thomas S. Moore of Anderson & Moore, the Francis J. Rooney/St. Thomas More Award.
CVLS presents awards Ruth Ann Schmitt, executive director of the Lawyers Trust Fund of Illinois since its inception, received the Atticus Finch Award from the Chicago Volunteer Legal Services Foundation during its annual reception on Nov. 8. The Court of Honor Award was bestowed on Cook County Judge E. Kenneth Wright Jr., and a Law Firm Award was given to the Clifford Law Offices.
Global award to Burke Supreme Court Justice Anne M. Burke was honored Nov. 1 during a Global Alliance for Africa reception to call attention to the plights of children who are orphaned by the deaths of parents with AIDS. She received the inaugural Children's Advocate Award from the Lawyers' Committee for the Women and Children's Legal Rights Project during the event at Jenner & Block.
Recent appointments Robert A. Clifford of Chicago, Illinois state delegate to the American Bar Association House of Delegates, has been appointed to the faculty of the Litigation Institute for Trial Training of the DePaul University College of Law and ABA Section of Litigation. He is a past chair of the section. • • • R. Mark Halligan of Lovells, Chicago, has been reappointed chair of the Trade Secrets and Interferences with Contracts Committee of the American Bar Association Section of Intellectual Property Law. Halligan also chairs the Trade Secrets Committee of the American Intellectual Property Law Association and is co-chair of the Trade Secrets Licensing Committee of the Licensing Executives Society. He was elected Oct. 26 to the U.S. executive committee of the Association Internationale pour la Protection de la Propriete Intellectuelle. • • • Paul E. Wojcicki, a partner in Segal, McCambridge, Singer & Mahoney, Chicago, has become a member of the Resources and Research Committee of the Institute of Warranty Chain Management. • • • Taylorville attorney Daniel Austin has been appointed to the Lincoln Land Community College board. He chairs the advisory board for its Eastern Region Education Center. • • • Chicago attorney Kevin MacKinnon has been appointed to a three-year term on the Harrington College of Design board.
