Kane County foundation gives grants for legal assistance

The Kane County Bar Foundation recently issued a total of $10,000 in grants to agencies that serve the legal needs of county residents. They are:

• $4,000 to Administer Justice in West Dundee for direct legal assistance to low-income individuals.

• $2,000 to the Hope Legal Clinic in Aurora for the same purpose.

• $2,000 to CASA of Kane County to recruit, train and manage cases for special advocates.

• $1,000 to Centro de Information in Elgin for assistance to new immigrants.

• $500 to the Boys and Girls Club of Elgin for anti-gang initiatives.

• $500 to Lazarus House in St. Charles to create a network of attorneys willing to provide legal assistance to the homeless.

Funds for these grants were raised through the foundation's annual gala, a shop-and-share date at Crate and Barrel, and donations from lawyers and interested individuals.

Foundation president Michael C. Doyen, a past president of the Kane County Bar Association, has announced a “Raising the Bar” campaign with a goal of $250,000 for scholarship and subsistence program grants.
