Law firm provides $266,935 cy pres to DuPage legal aid The DuPage Legal Assistance Foundation received a cy pres award of $50,795.37 on Oct. 4 as a result of a lawsuit litigated by the Law Offices of DiTommaso & Lubin in Oakbrook Terrace. That brings the total of the firm's cy pres gifts to the foundation to $266,935.18 since 2003, when Vincent L. DiTomasso notified director Brenda Carroll of pending distributions from five cases. “We would like to extend our thanks for the hard work, effort and dedication that the DuPage Legal Assistance Foundation provides to residents that are less fortunate than others,” DiTomasso said. Earlier this year, the foundation received a $117,079.92 cy pres gift as a result of a DiTomasso & Rubin class action involving fees that were charged incorrectly by a hotel to its customers ( Terrill v. Oakbrook Hilton Suites and Garden Inn).DiTomasso, a 1982 graduate of the Chicago-Kent College of Law, also has accepted pro bono assignments of family law cases from the foundation. Peter S. Lubin, the other name partner, is a 1983 graduate of the University of Chicago Law School. The DuPage County Bar Association board recently adopted a resolution of appreciation for the law firm's demonstration of “professional commitment to access to legal services by the indigent.” |
