Legal services summit planned

A triennial statewide conference of legal services advocates will take place Thursday and Friday, Oct. 27-28, at the Crowne Plaza Chicago Metro Hotel.

The Illinois Bar Foundation, Chicago Bar Foundation and Lawyers Trust Fund of Illinois are providing financial support for the gathering of the directors, staff and pro bono attorneys, volunteer coordinators, paralegal and support staff of legal service provider agencies.

The theme of the conference is “Beyond the Legal Needs Study,” referring to the Legal Aid Safety Net report on issues facing the legal aid delivery system as the needs of low-income clients are addressed.

In addition to networking and sharing information, participants will be able to attend training programs and develop working relationships across program lines and geographic boundaries.

Linda Zazove, deputy director of the Land of Lincoln Legal Assistance Foundation, chairs the conference planning committee. Members include Richard Jay Hess of the Legal Assistance Foundation of Metropolitan Chicago, chair of the ISBA Committee on Delivery of Legal Services.

Others are Margaret C. Benson, director of the Chicago Volunteer Legal Services Foundation; Michael O'Connor of Prairie State Legal Services, Kankakee, and Mark Marquardt of the Lawyers Trust Fund.
